Thomas Carvings is a family business run by Harry, Danny and Victoria Thomas.
They have been privileged to receive a variety of commissions for really unusual artworks over the years and are especially proud of their creations.
“It’s a real honour to be able to bring something back to life; to see the joy on someone’s face when you present them with an artwork which has so much personal meaning is simply priceless.”
Wood has always been a part of Harry Thomas’ life but his carving journey began in Devon in the early nineties.
His career as a tree surgeon had allowed him to focus on building his knowledge and craft while bringing up his family with wife, Victoria.
His free spirit is most at home when out in the wilderness surrounded by nature and it was this, along with his enjoyment of the technical side of carving which inspired him to combine his talents and creativity to Carve Art.
In 1992 Harry sold his first carving, launched his business and has been carving professionally ever since.
Harry is a modest man but his talents have seen him venture onto the podium many times over the years, for example coming first at the English Open Chainsaw Carving Competition four times.
He also gathered some unexpected celebrity status when he was invited to appear on television’s Good Morning Britain where he was interviewed by Gethin Jones and did a live carving of the Queen Elizabeth II for the jubilee celebrations.
Harry loves creating bespoke commissions, finding it a great privilege to be able to bring such joy to people’s lives and he has had some particularly unique requests over the years including a 30 ft high dragon.
With some of his works residing in Mayfair’s Vigo Gallery in London, Nottingham’s Town Square, The Royal Sandringham Estate and many National Trust and Natural Resource Wales Sites, he feels honoured that these pieces can be enjoyed by so many every day.
A talent for carving didn’t just stop with Harry. His son Danny is also an exceptional Wood and Ice Carver and together they now run “Thomas Carvings” from their studios in Mid Wales. They travel all over the country creating beautiful pieces of art for both individuals and businesses.
Harry jokes that his son Danny was literally born to Carve Art and the two of them together have an infectious love for their work.
Danny started carving age 8 so Harry says that he had a head start on him!
Their competitive side has lead them to take part in annual Speed Carving Demonstrations along with 35 other sculptors – some of the best in the world.
They also exhibit at Timber and Trade Shows nationally where they showcase some of their work and advise fellow carvers seeking advice.
See them at the next Thomas Carving Timber Show at the East Anglian Game & Country Fair on Saturday 27th & Sunday 28th April 2019. It's a fantastic day out for all the family, See What's On here; https://ukgamefair.co.uk/whats-on/
